Speed Machine with a Difference

I saw this on a international website and thought it was pretty cool, look at how well it is finished and i think if you had to throw a nice set of wheels on it and get down and dirty it would be pretty fast.

Not to mention everybody looking at you, so its just my kind of Bike, because if you can’t be first be on TV.

Argon has landed and the Here are the Pornstars new Rigs

I have been very fortunate to be involved with such a great brand and such sexy bikes.

IMG00200-20100205-1459

My TT bike is the 2010 Argon E-114 with Full custom Carbon Tri bars and Full Sram , ceramic Red with the Super sexy and fast Xentis Mark 1 TT wheelset, speedplay pedals to finish her off. I am not sure of the weight but its light, i guess complete like this it’s about 7.3kgs

Also rocking the new Specialized Romin saddle.

IMG00201-20100205-1459

My road rig is there new Top end 2010 Frameset with full SRAM force, which is under the 2kg mark this year and retails for around R 8700.00 this is the best value for money out there as its lighter than the new dura ace and half the price. I finished her off with the new american classic victory wheelset which is good value for money and matches the rest of the bike and off course speedplay pedals. This weighs around 7kg complete and with training wheels…scarey, its a sub 900g frame so i had a good start there.

Now all i need to do is train again…Hmmmmm

Awesome new TT Bars i am importing

So i have been on the look out for something special when it comes to TT bars and i think i have found them. I am going to be importing ths brand of TT bars, they weigh 440g a set and although the extentions can’t adjust the arm rests can.

The extentions are in a such a sweet and perfect ride position though you wont need to change much. They will retail for  R3800.00 so its excellent value and carry a 2 year warranty.

Zipp Limited Edition Wheels

NEW ‘Special Edition’ 404 Wheel Set from ZIPP (made in Indianapolis, USA)

ZIPP has been making light weight, carbon wheels for decades working with Professional Cycling Teams and Tri Athletes alike.  They spend millions of dollars on R&D, wind tunnel design (not only wind tunnel testing) and build the foundation of their business on superior quality products.

ZIPP holds the patent for a ‘structural toroidal rim’ and this ‘toroidal’ rim shape makes ZIPP wheels more aerodynamic than any of its competitors at the same rim depth.  In other words if you have any other wheel with the same rim depth the ZIPP wheels will always be more aerodynamic (at normal racing speeds of 15km/h to 65km/h).  ZIPP wheels also have a dimpled effect on their rims to give them better aerodynamic qualities.  ZIPP recently launched NEW hubs (88/188) for their 2010 range which has given them the opportunity to bring the ‘Special Edition’ wheels to market at a fraction of the price of the 2010 wheels.

The ‘Special Edition’ 404 wheel set is probably the best value for money carbon deep section wheel set out there (R14250 recommended retail price).  Although the rims doesn’t have dimples it uses the same ‘toroidal’ rim shape which is the most important aerodynamic feature.  They build these 404 tubby and clincher rims on the their 2009 (82/182) hubs using the same Sapim CX Ray bladed spokes.

The Special Edition wheels are aimed at the cycling enthusiast and competitive rider who is looking for performance wheels at a more affordable price.  The wheels are imported and distributed by Bicycle Matrix (011 466 9974) who have been the agents for ZIPP for the past 6 years and will be backed up and supported in exactly the same manner as all their other Zipp products.

My new Suit Coming…

New Orca Alpha wetsuit for 2009

The Alpha is an all new wetsuit for 2009. Essentially it replaces the Apex 2 as our top of the range wetsuit, for good swimmers who want the highest levels of flexibility.

We are pretty excited about the suit as the feedback we have had from our sponsored athletes has been fantastic. Some key facts/features:

  • It’s the first Orca wetsuit to use Yamamoto #40 cell neoprene (over every part of the suit apart from the Aerodome panels).
  • It uses 1.5mm panels of neoprene across the arms, shoulders, chest, and these panels are cut into unique shapes to provide fantastic flexibility, the horseshoe shaped panel that runs from the underarm across the chest in particular really helps with extra flexibility). There’s also a high stretch nylon lining for increased flexibility.
  • Orca have reverted to the Yamamoto name “Aerodome” for the neoprene they’ve previously called AirLite – they developed this neoprene with Yamamoto a few years ago, and it’s proved popular because it provides about 30% more buoyancy than normal 5mm neoprene.
  • The Alpha (and the 3.8) also get a new forearm catch panel called AquaTread. Rather than printing silicon onto jersey they’ve used a moulded and pressed piece of neoprene to create more drag with each stroke.

New Giant Trinity TT bike

OK, so i know i have a lot about bike the last few weeks but it is Tour de France Baby, which means all new toys, its my favourite 3 weeks of the year.

The one thing i hate is seeing a prototype TT bike in all black as i always wonder if the manufacture will make it even hotter with a really HOT spray job.

Fabians Specialized Shiv did just that and i must say i am very impressed with the New Giant Trinity. Seems it is going to be the first of the new breed of super bike to be available to the public in the next few months.

I love the way the new bikes are going and cant wait to ride one soon.

Hottest TT bike ever..

Yes i know we have all seen the SHIV, but not like this…

This is super hot…Fabian rocked this baby to 1st place at the prologue of the Tour de France

Better pics of New Trek TT Bike, Lance Style

Here is the pic of the new trek flat on so you can see the differences between the old and new model. This is lances personal bike for tomorrow at the tour de france, thanks to twitter.

I am loving this bike and cant wait to see it in real life

Sneak Peak at Kestrel 2010 Bike

Thanks to X-tri.com i found this :

First look at 2010 Kestrel bike, no details yet but they did say this :

While not final in design just yet, we are certain this will make it’s debut in Kona where Kestrel will make it official to athletes. By the way… it will be UCI legal.

Interesting

New Specialized been named

A lot of us have already seen this picture of Fabian taking a picture of his new unnamed TT beast, but after a few weeks here is the official press release on it :

Cut through drag with the Shiv

The radical Specialized S-Works time trial bike that Saxo Bank’s Fabian Cancellara has been piloting over the past few months – to great success, we might add – is now officially called the Shiv and it will be available for public consumption in 2010, albeit in “incredibly limited quantities”.

Key features include the in-line level top tube and integrated stem, the enormous forward bulkhead section with the fully enclosed front brake built-in, the almost nonexistent gaps between adjacent components, carefully configured internally routed cables, special shaping around the top of the seat stays, the bottom bracket-located rear brake, and an especially slippery fully integrated aero bar setup.

In spite of the forward section’s visual mass, it is its relative bulk and width that actually helps it achieve better drag figures at more realistic yaw angles more typically seen during a real world time trial. Naturally, Specialized claims impressive aero figures for the Shiv: just 513g of drag at 0 degrees yaw relative to the current Transition’s 582g; 443g vs. 626g at 15 degrees on the non-driveside; and just 386g vs. 596g at 15 degrees on the driveside – roughly the same as what the non-UCI legal GT Superbike achieved in the ‘96 and ‘00 Olympics with its downsized front wheel, no top tube, and the limited componentry associated with its pursuit role.

In fact, Specialized is so confident in the Shiv’s aerodynamics that it is openly challenging any other bicycle company to best the bike’s performance in the wind tunnel (any takers?).

Aerodynamics is only part of the equation however and according to Specialized, the Shiv is also one of the most confident-handling machines around owing to its near-Tarmac SL2 rigidity figures: 89.1 Nm/degree for the front triangle vs. 92.5 – or roughly 30 percent better than its nearest competitor, claims Specialized.

The front end is especially stout. Though the tapered 1″-to-1 1/8″ carbon steerer tube isn’t all that solid on its own, the forward bulkhead is firmly bolted to the fork at both the top of the steerer and at the crown for a fully boxed-in structure and the larger lower bearing also allows for a broader down tube. The top tube is rather broad as well and down below, the Shiv boasts heaping amounts of carbon fiber around the bottom bracket area. Both the chain stays and seat stays are also imposingly sizeable and in fact, very little about the Shiv’s shaping even remotely suggests the idea of ’spindly’.

As if that weren’t already enough, the Shiv is light to boot: claimed frame weight is around 1,300g and a complete bike with a Zipp Sub-9 carbon tubular rear disc and 1080 deep-section front wheel, FACT integrated carbon crank and a SRAM Red group is just 7.6kg (16.8lb).

Explicit UCI approval is still in progress but Specialized adamantly insists the bike is ‘UCI-compliant’ and it has already been used in competition at both the Giro d’Italia and the Tour de Suisse – cross your fingers.

Specialized will offer the Shiv in four frame sizes, all measured using the easier-to-interpret X-Y ’stack and reach’ system that is quickly gaining favor through the industry. As Shiv is intended as a pure road time trial machine, Transition will remain in the lineup as a more versatile TT/Tri rig and will even gain three sizes for a new total of six.

Shiv pricing is still to be determined but the ‘extremely expensive’ descriptor will almost assuredly apply.

New Trek TT bike showing face again

I am not a huge fan of TREK and especially not their TT bikes but i must say the very first time i saw Alberto Contador on it i thought it was very nice. Its got a killer spray job to start with but more importantly a few clever bits and pieces.

This weekend we saw Chris Lieto riding on one and i am loving it more and more. TREK SA though aren’t bringing in any TT bikes for the 2010 season and i recently heard that they not even going to bring in road bikes. Sign of the times maybe or sign of there being a huge choice of bikes for the consumer.

My new Speed Machine

Its taken me a long time and its finally here.

Picture doesnt do it justice as its actually a green fade and not yellow as in the picture but you will get the look and feel from this.

Its all vinyl so can be taken off at anytime. I have put a new simple minimilist TT front end, Profile CSX extentions on a Zipp Bull bar with Sram levers and brakes, no tape or anything, so its naked.

Sram red on rest of bike, so its a really smooth fast ride.
