Some of the guys were lucky enough to pick up a eye wear sponsor from a young up and coming brand in SA. Blue Eye have been launched in SA a few months ago By Jurgen Rojahn and already have caused a bit or a stir. They have some of the best polarized lenses in the business, go check them out.
Here is Brandon Sacks of the Bar-one Manhunt wearing a pair with me in Dubai.
I recently got the chance to see the worlds tallest building in Dubai, Thanks to the Bar-one Manhunt TV show.
And boy is it impressive, see this chart to give you some idea of what i am talking about.
It is so amazing. Its the first time in my life that i have experienced looking at a building then needing to take a few steps backwards and then look up again because the first time i looked i couldn’t see the top. I didn’t get the change to go inside but apparently it has Offices, Flats, Hotel and Shopping center.
Its so tall that i couldn’t get it into a picture. I am not 100% sure of the height but it is in the region of around 2400ft or 745m tall as just how height it is was kept a secret until its been finished.
So thanks to Nestle and Bar-one Manhunt i was lucky enough to spend the weekend in Dubai and at Duty free you see all the usual stuff and some f the prices are great and then some arent that great.
But this this little bad boy caught my eye, its a 1.5L of Cognac and see what the price tag was.
At around 56 shots inside you looking at $ 715 a shot or R 5362 here at home.
So tonight’s episode we will be 4×4 with the Nissan Nivara’s which proved to be a lot tricker than you would think as the course they gave us to do was insane.
Lots of laughs during the day and then a elimination at night which always sucks, be sure to tune in tonight on SABC 3 at 8.30pm to see who wins and who goes.
and remember to keep smsing ” Bar-one and Collin A ” to 34704
I have just returned from Zambia and i have been lucky enough to visit 3 African countires in 3 months thanks to the Bar-one Manhunt TV Show. The one thing you get in every African country i have visited is a Beer with the name of where you are.
This is something we don’t do here in SA. I mean every tourist when in that African country drinks that local beer because that is what you do when you in a different country. But here we do offer local beer and we do have all the other imported beer, but no Cape Town Lager if you know what I mean ?
With all the tourists coming through maybe there is a real gap here in the market for one ?
Hmmm…i am off to investigate. Watch this space people.
So i worked out this morning that i have averaged 14km per week of running for the last 12 weeks incl today’s marathon.
Its a joke actually how much i haven’t been running and due to the Bar-One Manhunt TV that i am on, we are filming every weekend for the next 6 or 7 and wasn’t going to have time to qualify for comrades, so i had to run one at the drop of the hat today on valentines day.
I survived and survived well, i only started feeling a lot of pain around 38km and then the last 4km were really sore, but more joint and ankle pain from being on my feet so long as i haven’t been running at all.
I ran a PB, as it was my first stand alone marathon i have ever done and the only other one i have done was in a Ironman and i ran 4hr 39min. Today i ran the course in the howling wind and rain in 3hr 56 min which i am very proud of.
The only reason i was able to do this was good pacing during the race, i didn’t push it or care when big women were running past me, good equipment on the day and then lots of good base HR biking in December. I managed to keep my HR around 145 bpm the whole way which is about 70% of my sustainable max for me and still be strong. I would of been even stronger if i didn’t do a 2hr MTB yesterday but hey, you only live once, right ?
I ran in double layer compression tights, from Under Armour which i thought was going to be a overkill, but they were so super comfy and didn’t bother me at all during race, i also used there Compression socks and under long sleeve. I wore there clima cool cap as well. I rocked my Puma Tenos shoes which are my favourite in the puma range and have been ever since i got a set 4 years ago. I also used my custom Oakley radars to bring me home.
Another small piece of equipment i used was my Power Balance and i must say i felt strong most of the way and was able to hold my form a lot longer than i expected and believe that it gave me the edge.
If you interested here is my data from the day :
Avg HR for the day was 149 bpm, i really started to run harder near the end to make sure i broke 4hrs
3271 Calories Burnt for run
I took 5km run splits according to the boards : 29:28 ; 28.02 ; 26:41 ; 28:53 ; 27:07 ; 27:36 ; 28:13 ; 28:19 the first one was slower cause we were running through people and the faster one had long down hill but pretty consistant.
My nutrition plan was light breakfast, a KORU every hour from the start, i only started coke around 18km and beofre that was only water. Once i started coke i hit a cup every table and made sure i walked the whole table. I also popped 1 myprodol at 21km which was awesome.
So there you go, was 1 hell of experience and i qualified for comrades which is going to be a whole nother mother, now i think its time i start doing some more running, thats once i can walk again of course.
So if you know me then you know that i have been talking about doing this for ages. But the thing is besides the money you have to pay to do it, you then also need to jump out of a plane.
But as luck would have it, i have been given the chance to do it with the Bar-one Manhunt TV show and man are you in for a surprize on wednesday night show, SABC 3 at 8.30pm

As you might know i was selected from the whole of SA to compete in the Bar One Man Hunt TV Show along with 13 other guys.
They are keeping us very underfed with information on what and where and how it is all going to happen.
But this is what i do know, i have to pack a lot of stuff, get a few injections, have my passport ready and take 3 weeks off work to be on set.
We met everybody for the first time last night and we got off to a great start, with my Team, The Black Team with KB, TK and myself winning the first challenge.
The show starts on 6th January 2010 on SABC3 at 8.30pm
